My name is Katie and I’m a 20-something Pittsburgher with a serious devotion for all things healthy living! Your go-to fitness guru, healthy yet indulgent foodie, and fashionista-all in one place, giving you the tools to become your most fab self..one rep at a time!
I thrive on individuals’ progress; whether it be from a one-on-one client, a group fitness participant, blogger, friend, or a rando who happened to stumble across my blog- I’m their biggest cheerleader from start to finish. I train. I educate. I motivate. I encourage people to build a stronger, more functional body. A body they learn to love and radiate confidence from. A stress-free lifestyle that’s suitable for them. I don’t have a “one size fits all” mindset nor do I think fitness is a “fad”; it’s a lifestyle change that takes time, diligence, and determination but most importantly, it’s a journey that’s all about you! And who doesn’t love it when it’s all about them?
I recently graduated from NC State University in May 2012 with a B.S. in Sport Management and Fitness Leadership! My choice to attend NCSU was, well..random. No one from my family lives in North Carolina; I’ve vacationed at Emerald Isle and Topsail Island a few times, but other than that-no ties. In fact, I only applied to colleges in NC! I just knew I wanted a new experience while still being under my parents wing, and what better place than the B-E-A-utiful Raleigh NC-I swear mom and dad the weather was
not a factor in my decision ! All throughout college, I worked at the gym as first, a group fitness instructor; second, a personal trainer; and third, the Student Director of Personal Training. Loving every minute of it, I deeply involved myself in Campus Recreation and wanted to further both my education and experiences within the field. Knowing that going to graduate school comes with a hefty price tag, I decided to attend the NIRSA conference in Tampa, Florida and interview for graduate assistantships, where the university would pay for my education and in return, I would work for a department (fitness) within recreation. I didn’t have a specific college I wanted to receive a GA position at, but I was favoring the Northeast more so that I could be closer to home and family. In the end, I was offered a GA position in fitness and wellness and Oakland University in Rochester Michigan!
And that brings me to the next chapter in my life.
Packing up all my belongings from NC and unpacking in MI. Meeting all new people and working in a new atmosphere. Cherishing relationships that I had in NC and making new relationships in MI. Taking on a lot more responsibility-personally, physically, and emotionally. Managing stress and learning to balance things. Having fun. the list is endless..
The one thing (out of my constant travels) that stays the same..Fitness is my passion (as if you couldn’t tell). I started exercising the summer going into my junior year of high school and have never looked back. Not only is exercise a personal activity, but also a family one; my mom and I would go into the basement and complete workout DVDs together (see below), my dad and I would take our dogs to walk/run around the park & chat, and my brother and I workout at the gym together, sharing ideas from his hockey days and my knowledge. My family is MY biggest cheerleader; they’ve stood behind me all throughout undergrad and will continue to stand by me through graduate school. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their love, support, and encouragement to do what I want!
My ultimate goal in life is to create my own series of fitness DVD’s, ranging from yoga and Pilates to strength training/aerobics/HIIT-type workouts so that people of all levels of fitness can benefit. In addition to DVD’s, I want to be a key leader in developing people to reach their greatness and love the life they choose to live.
I strive to infect my love, passion, and knowledge of all-things healthy living (fitness, wellness, mind/body, recipes, fashion) into each and every one of you, one rep at a time!
