Supporting a Great Cause!

26 Apr

Happy Hump day all!

Things are still chaotic around here; it’s “dead week”, which should really be termed “death week” because every project, paper, last minute assignments, and my sanity are due! After this week, I will officially be done with my undergraduate career at NC State! Finals start next week, so blogging will be put on a mini-hiatus again :/.

My lovely friend and former mentee, Jess, is the president and founder of Headbands of Hope, which kicks off today! Their mission:

“To fund research for childhood cancer and spread hope in all girls, one at a time” (source)

For every headband purchased, one is given to a girl with cancer and $1 is donated to St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund life-saving childhood cancer research. Not only are all of the headbands $14.99 (excluding tax and shipping), but also insanely cute and stylish! What better way to raise awareness for such a great cause than doing it in style?

Also, the Work It Out tab has been updated! You can now find my favorite and most popular workout posts listed on the front page. Exercising can’t get any easier!

Miles 4 Kay

1 Feb

February 1 kicks off the Miles 4 Kay, a program that raises awareness and funds for women’s cancer. Initiated by Kay Yow herself, she teamed up “with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 c(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause,” (source). University Recreation is helping raise awareness by wearing our pink shirts and logging miles on the pink treadmills! $.10 per mile will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund during the month of February.

Not only is running or walking on a pink treadmill honorable enough by itself..but knowing that every step taken is helping a great foundation- worth all the glisteningsweat and miles!

To encourage you to log miles, I’ve created a list of treadmill sessions..so you really have no excuse! I’ve taken the guess-work out for you so all you have to do is print it, take it with you, and do ya thang!
